A request for a $5 million state loan to help develop 50 affordable houses for essential workers — such as teachers, fire-rescue workers and law enforcement officers in Indiantown — received a green light from a state advisory committee.
The board of directors of the Florida Housing Finance Corp. is set to make a final decision Friday morning on the request by the developer of the Village of Quillen for the low-interest loan under the state Community Workforce Housing Innovation Pilot Program.
The loan would have an interest rate of 1 to 3 percent, state records show. The loan may be forgiven if the developer meets the long-term affordability goals of the program.
The Quillen proposal was among 11 requests that the corporation's Review Committee determined to be eligible for funding during a meeting on Friday, said Ian Smith, the group's spokesman.
The $5 million loan would help cover part of the $15.4 million cost of the affordable houses, state records show.
Developer Indiantown Holding of Delray Beach plans to build 2,250 houses and 150,000 square feet of commercial space on a 582-acre site north of Warfield Boulevard and west of Allapattah Road.
